Since 2002, GVEA's Board of Directors has given away $20,000 annually to eight local students. Winners are announced at GVEA's Annual Members Meeting each April.
These scholarships are open to graduating seniors, vocational and continuing education students. To be eligible, the applicant or a member of the applicant's immediate family must be a member of Golden Valley Electric.
The use of unclaimed capital credits to fund scholarships provides a good source to support education for our cooperative members. The Alaska Rural Electric Cooperative Association's Education Foundation manages the funds for the co-op.
